PHILIPPINES INTERVENTION (2018)

Tanenbaum Peacemakers in Action Deng Giguiento and Azhar Hussain came together in Mindanao, Philippines, to present their latest work at the Interreligious Dialogue Learning Conference and interact with local Muslim communities. SRI LANKA INTERVENTION (2015)

Sri Lankan Peacemaker Dishani Jayaweera invited fellow Tanenbaum Peacemakers Pastor James Wuye and Imam Muhammad Ashafa of Nigeria to Sri Lanka. The Nigerian duo exemplified the peaceful coexistence and transformation that can take place between two differing parties who were once at violent odds. Dishani built a program around their story to provide Sri Lankan activists (of various religious backgrounds) with a model of not only conflict transformation, reconciliation, and the concrete, powerful example that together, we achieve peace.

THE SYRIA INTERVENTION (2014)

Hind Kabawat, a Syrian lawyer and Tanenbaum Peacemaker in Action, convened 160 peace activists from Syria for workshops in conflict resolution, transitional justice and civil society building. Leveraging her fellow Tanenbaum Peacemakers and their Network, Hind invited Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge from South Africa and Friar Ivo Markovic from Bosnia-Herzegovina to serve as both instructors and inspirations, drawing on their experiences in building peace and reconciliation amid prolonged armed conflict.

INTERVENTION TO PROTECT COLOMBIAN PEACEMAKER (2013)

Despite his record (or because of it), Peacemaker Ricardo Esquivia Ballestas has been repeatedly threatened, baselessly, with detention or legal action. In September 2013, Tanenbaum received concerning news that Ricardo is again facing severe political persecution at the hands of the Colombian military and paramilitary groups in the region.

HONDURAS CAPACITY BUILDING TRAININGS (2011 & 2013)

Peacemaker José “Chencho” Alas works with the FNRP coalition to restore the people’s voice and build a participatory democratic process. In 2011 he organized an intervention with South African Peacemaker Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge to train over 50 coalition leaders in peaceful organizing methods.

DELEGATION TO NIGERIA (2010)

In an effort ward off violence and create a peaceful election atmosphere, Peacemakers Imam Muhammad Ashafa and Pastor James Wuye organized a delegation of their fellow Peacemakers to reach out to Nigerian communities. This delegation included one representative from each Abrahamic faiths: Yehezkel Landau (US/Israel), Ivo Markovic (Bosnia-Herzegovina), and Azhar Hussain (Pakistan).

DELEGATION TO THE MIDDLE EAST (2009)

Because of her experience at the 2007 Peacemakers in Action Working Retreat, Hind Kabawat approached Tanenbaum to conduct a groundbreaking workshop for Syrian women. An expansion of her public diplomacy work in the region, this was Hind’s first conference exclusively for women and one of the first interfaith conferences in the country.
