Celebrating Holidays in a Culture of Respect for All

Dear Tanenbaum Community, 

Together, we can build a culture of respect for all holidays in your classroom. Tanenbaum’s lesson plans and guides are a great resource for helping students understand and appreciate the diversity of holiday traditions throughout the year. to promote awareness and respect for diverse holiday practices throughout the school year. Our Religions in My Neighborhood curriculum teaches actionable and measurable behaviors that demonstrate respect for religious diversity in the classroom. In Unit III, we explore why both religious and secular holidays are meaningful, and why it‘s important to honor holidays and sacred places that may be different from our own. With Fall and Winter holidays coming up, it’s a perfect time to start these conversations! Some notable Fall and Winter holidays around the corner include:

  • Christmas Day – December 25, 2024 
  • Bodhi Day – December 8, 2024 
  • Pancha Ganapati – December 21 – 25 2024 
  • Chanukah – December 25, 2024 (evening) – January 2, 2025 
  • Kwanzaa – December 26, 2024 – January 1, 2025 
  • New Year’s Day – January 1, 2025 
  • Christmas Day (Eastern Orthodox) – January 7, 2025
