Millions around the world mark the spring season of renewal with faith-based observances and celebrations.
On April 14th, Sikhs will celebrate Vaisakhi, a festival that honors the birth of the Khalsa, a cherished order. Vaisakhi is also celebrated by Hindus in certain parts of India.
Easter and its associated holidays often fall on different dates for Western and Eastern Orthodox Christian traditions. This year, the dates are the same for both. Lent, a 40-day period of prayer and reflection that began on March 3rd, ends on Holy Thursday in commemoration of the Last Supper of Jesus Christ. Holy Thursday falls on April 17th and is followed by Good Friday on April 18th and Easter Sunday on April 20th.
The Jewish holiday of Passover (Pesach in Hebrew) begins at sundown on April 12th and extends until sundown on April 20th. Passover celebrates the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt and liberation from slavery.
