Today is International Women’s Day! Celebrated for over 100 years, this honorary day spotlights the achievements of women around the world and recognizes our ongoing need for political, economic, and social equality.
Within our Peacemakers in Action Network, we are proud to work alongside inspiring women who work tirelessly for peace. One such woman is Dr. Sakena Yacoobi.
Join us next Wednesday, March 15th as we hear from Sakena as part of the 67th session of the Commission on the Status of Women. Sakena will discuss her ongoing mission to provide education and leadership opportunities to women and girls throughout Afghanistan as well as her creative pivots during the pandemic. For example, when the Taliban barred girls from school, Sakena’s Afghan Institute of Learning decided to broadcast educational curricula via TV and radio so young people could advance their education from home.
This conversation will explore Sakena’s work further and the role of technological innovation in advancing education and gender equity. Register here and join us next Wednesday, March 15, at 11:00 AM EST! We hope to see many of you there.
