Dear Friends,
It can be difficult to navigate discussions about both religion and mental health. Yet, these conversations are essential to promoting patient-centered care. This May, in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, Tanenbaum is re-sharing our Conscientious Care Conversation: Religion and Mental Health.
This conversation explores how different belief systems inform mental health care and empowers healthcare professionals to start the conversation about the religious and spiritual needs of their patients.
Tammie DeYoe, LCSW-R, emphasizes the importance of upfront, honest communication between providers and patients. Reassuring patients that conversations about religion are appropriate in the healthcare context and that their beliefs will be respected can strengthen patient-provider relationships.
