Dear Friends,

As Spring makes its way to the northern hemisphere, many faith traditions mark this season of rebirth and renewal with celebrations reflecting pride and commitment to community traditions.

Holi, the Hindu Festival of Colors, falls on March 4th and coincides with the Sikh festival of Hola Mohalla, observed from March 4th-16th.

Naw Ruz, celebrated on March 21st, is a holy day in the Baha’i and Zoroastrian religions and is observed in various countries as the cultural celebration of the Persian New Year.

Purim, which commemorates the survival of Jews in ancient Persia, will be observed from the evening of March 2nd through March 3rd.

Ramadan, a month of fasting in the Islamic tradition, began the evening of February 17th and will end on the evening of March 19th, culminating in the celebration of Eid al-Fitr.

Tanenbaum’s Workplace Resources page provides fact sheets on holidays observed throughout the year, along with best practices for recognizing and respecting employee observances. To learn more about our programs and resources, please contact us at [email protected]. We’d love to hear from you!

Fun Fact: Many Naw Ruz celebrations feature a ceremonial table called a haftseen. Table decorations vary from region to region: in Iran, they may include seven symbolic items beginning with the letter ‘s’ in the Persian language. In some homes, goldfish are placed on the table, representing life. (American University, Washington)

Sending warm wishes to all who celebrate.

Warmly,
