Dear Tanenbaum community,
We are devastated by the shooting that took place on Monday, May 18, at the Islamic Center of San Diego. Our hearts and thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and the Muslim community of San Diego and across the U.S.
Islamophobia and hatred against any religious community is all of our concern. It is each of our responsibilities to push back against the rise in harmful anti-Muslim rhetoric we are seeing in the U.S. – a narrative that is rooted in ignorance, fear, and disinformation.
In the words of the Islamic Center of San Diego’s director, Imam Taha Hassane, “All of us, we are responsible for spreading the culture of tolerance, the culture of love.” Let us move Imam Hassane’s words forward and combat hatred through collective care and unity.
Together in community,
Rev. Mark Fowler, CEO, Tanenbaum
