Dear Tanenbaum Community,
It is with a heavy heart that we extend our deepest condolences to the Global Catholic community and to all who mourn the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis.
Pope Francis called attention to many important causes and was a great advocate for peace. He encouraged not only prayer for peace, but to work toward peace through dialogue, reconciliation, and the cessation of violence. He will be remembered for his social justice work, including his care for the poor, and his calls for interreligious dialogue, and to end violence in global hotspots. Pope Francis also brought light to environmental issues, including in his environmental encyclical, “Laudato Si'” (Praise Be to You) where he discussed climate change, the importance of caring for the environment, and the many links between environmental and social justice issues.
At Tanenbaum, we believe there are many paths to peace. Pope Francis was a powerful voice for peace, justice, and healing on an individual and global scale. He stated,
“To understand one another, and to grow in charity and truth, we need to pause, to accept and listen to one another. In this way, we already begin to experience unity.”
Together as a community, we can honor the legacy of Pope Francis by practicing acceptance and promoting unity rather than division.
With humility,
Rev. Mark Fowler, CEO, Tanenbaum
