This Pride Month, join Tanenbaum in celebrating the intersections of gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, and health by reading and sharing our updated resource LGBTQ+ Youth Health: The Role of Religion.
The Trevor Project’s 2022 paper, Religion and Spirituality among LGBTQ Youth, shows that one in five LGBTQ+ youth describe religion or spirituality as important. LGBTQ+ youth who report high importance of religion also report significantly lower rates of depression symptoms.
There are growing numbers of faith-based health care institutions that welcome and openly affirm LGBTQ+ individuals, yet this has not always been the case. LGBTQ+ Youth Health: The Role of Religion supports providers in respectfully considering the complex experience of health and religion for the LGBTQ+ community. Delicately balancing the multiple perspectives at the intersection of religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, and youth health enables health care professionals to provide the best care possible.
