Operations Internship – Summer 2026

THE ORGANIZATION

Tanenbaum promotes justice and builds respect for religious difference by transforming individuals and institutions to reduce prejudice, hatred, and violence.

As a secular and non-sectarian non-profit, Tanenbaum works to promote religious peacebuilders who help counter extremism and violence in armed conflicts, and tackles religious bullying of students, harassment in workplaces, and disparate health treatment for people based on their beliefs.

INTERN OVERVIEW

This internship program is designed as an educational opportunity for any interested student to learn the finance and operations facets of a nonprofit organization. This includes but is not limited to human resources, administration, finance, office management and technology guidance. This position offers a great deal of real-world experience by supporting a busy department within a very dynamic not-for-profit organization. The Operations Intern will report directly to the Director of Operations & Finance and Operations Associate

The Operations Intern must understand and support the organization’s mission, vision, values, and principles.

The position will support the following aspects of the Operations Department:

Human Resources

  • Maintain and update all human resource files
  • Support the hiring, onboarding, and termination processes
  • Support the administration of employee benefits
  • Support design of HR strategies to enhance collaboration, staff environment, and wellness
  • Support coordination of staff events and training

Administration

  • Update administrative and operational procedures
  • Maintain general files
  • Communicating with vendors

Finances

  • Pledge, donation, and other income tracking assistance
  • Processing of incoming payments/donations
  • Invoice creation and communication with clients
  • Budget review and forecasting

Technology

  • Support information technology needs, in partnership with our technology consultants, to ensure that all computer systems are functioning properly, and staff computer needs are being met.
  • Research technological solutions, options, and updates, as needed.
  • Coordinate general repairs and maintenance of equipment

Other

  • Other responsibilities and tasks may be necessary and appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS

  • The ability to work with confidential information and to maintain complete confidentiality with respect to said information is essential.
  • Commitment to the mission and goals of Tanenbaum
  • Non-profit/office experience
  • Currently enrolled student
  • Experience in operations, administration, or human resources a plus
  • Detail oriented, with exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize data and present it clearly
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter, can-do attitude, motivated, flexible, and able to take initiative in all situations
  • Problem-solver able to anticipate and solve problems independently and follow through on projects to completion.
  • Versatile technology skills and strong PC skills, especially with MS Office
  • Represent Tanenbaum in a professional manner at all times
  • Sense of humor

WORK PRODUCT

All work produced through this internship is for educational purposes and remains the property of Tanenbaum. Interns will receive structured feedback and guidance throughout their project.

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULING

COMPENSATION AND ACADEMIC CREDIT

This is an unpaid internship structured for academic credit or university-funded stipends. Tanenbaum will work with you and your school so that you can receive academic credit and/or university-funded stipends for the internship. Candidates should check with their school to confirm eligibility before applying.

WORK PRODUCT

All work produced for Tanenbaum by the employee is the work product of Tanenbaum and may not be used by the employee outside of Tanenbaum-authorized activities.
