Amira Musallam: How Peace Starts at Home

Dear Tanenbaum Community,

Our Peacebuilding program amplifies the work of activists around the globe. From South Africa, where Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge anchors her mediation work in pacifism, to El Salvador, where Yeny Gloribel Nolasco Quijada trains at-risk youth in fostering cultures of peace through projects like organic farming.

Women have been and continue to be at the forefront of positive social change. As we continue celebrating Women’s History Month, we spotlight one of our newest Peacemakers to join the Network, Amira Musallam from the West Bank.

Amira is the head of mission for Unarmed Civilian Protection in Palestine (UCPiP), an initiative she co-founded to deploy and coordinate unarmed protective presence teams in the West Bank. Having experienced violence and displacement at the age of 12, Amira’s work is rooted in a personal conviction to advance nonviolent unarmed protection in her local community.

Amira visited us late last year to share more about her work in the West Bank. As a mother, she shared how instilling cultures of peace starts at home. Watch the video here and stay tuned for more reflections from Amira in this series.

From us all at Tanenbaum, I wish you a meaningful Women’s History Month.

In unity,

Rev. Mark Fowler, CEO, Tanenbaum
