I am happy to see that patient centered care is getting more attention, evidenced by “A $42 Million Gift Aims at Improving Bedside Manner” in the NY Times. Though the new gift does not explicitly mention religion, it will promote doctors who really care about their patient’s well-being and background.
The idea is not new. Many physicians and medical practitioners recognize the power of positive doctor-patient relationships, but the financial support to ensure that this is truly part of medical education and practice – as evidenced by donations and patient feedback – is new.
At Tanenbaum, we will continue to track trends in the health care industry and promote the most neglected part of patient centered care – religious/spiritually respectful care. And as always, our resources are available to help you, whether as a patient or doctor.
Stay well,
JSD, CEO
