Practice Sessions

  • Recruit teachers and other school community members across disciplines to provide their expertise to the practice sessions. These coaches should also put special focus on helping students practice key skills like good sportspersonship, communication, and teamwork, as well as on the knowledge and skills they will need to succeed in the various events in which they will compete.
  • Be sure that coaches have a schedule of the Olympic day(s) and the time at which various events will be held so that as they work with students, they can be sure that no student is scheduled to compete in two events at the same time.
  • Provide students with ample practice sessions in the events in which they will participate.
  • If a school/program is engaging older students as Student Olympic Officials, they should be included, so that they too can practice their roles in the events.

Rehearsals

  • Prior to the Olympics, rehearse the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, including the process and route students will take to move from one event to the next.
  • The day before the Olympics, conduct a full-dress rehearsal of the Opening Ceremonies and the Closing Ceremonies.
