Dear Tanenbaum Community,
It has been 23 years since the attacks on September 11, 2001.
The devastation of that day lingers in a multitude of ways, and our collective grief continues.
Since 2001, September 11th represents immense loss, the heroism of first responders, the start of a 20-year war, and a trigger for ensuing Islamophobia that is still felt today.
At Tanenbaum, we mourn the nearly 3,000 people who perished and extend our heartfelt sorrows to their loved ones. We also recognize the spike in Islamophobia experienced by Muslims and those perceived to be Muslim since 9/11, and are committed to dismantling religious prejudice, hatred, and violence for all communities.
Today we offer the resources below, including a reflection from Tanenbaum staff member, Khadijah Ally, about growing up Muslim in post-9/11 America. While everyone’s experience of 9/11 is unique, we can facilitate unity and mutual understanding by sharing experiences and listening with empathy and respect.
In unity,
Rev. Mark Fowler, CEO, Tanenbaum
