Communications Associate

THE ORGANIZATION

Tanenbaum promotes justice and builds respect for religious difference by transforming individuals and institutions to reduce prejudice, hatred, and violence.

As a secular and non-sectarian non-profit, Tanenbaum works to promote religious peacebuilders who help counter extremism and violence in armed conflicts, and tackles religious bullying of students, harassment in workplaces, and disparate health treatment for people based on their beliefs.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Communications Associate position is an excellent opportunity to: (1) help create and drive the strategy and communications efforts of an innovative international non-profit organization, (2) develop internal programmatic, media-specific, and development/fundraising communications, and (3) take part in Communications Committee discussions with seasoned communications professionals.

The Communications Associate reports to the Communications Assistant Director, the Communications Senior Associate, and the CEO. The Communications Associate is responsible for planning, developing, project managing, and implementing internal communications, drafting and managing social media content and analysis, contributing to departmental strategy discussions, and additional responsibilities as needed.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Drafting institutional communications including core messages and branding.
  • Communications support of Tanenbaum’s programs and development efforts.
    • Edit and support the development of communications related to programmatic materials and content including resources, tip sheets, videos, etc.
  • Monitor news content and manage weekly Religion in the News emails.
  • Design and draft regular email outreach to constituents.
  • Monitor Communications ticket requests for projects and update Asana.
  • Monitor email open rates and research current trends to increase engagement, e.g. with email analytics.
  • Assist in the drafting and analysis of social media content, campaigns, and media ambassadors.
    • Survey social media trends and make recommendations for Tanenbaum’s social media.
  • Experience with social media platforms and services, including Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, Hootsuite, and Meltwater.
  • Update Progress Report for stakeholders.
  • Draft file memos, minutes, agendas, including for the Communications Committee.
  • Assist with researching press opportunities and support press outreach.
  • Support updates to the Communications Manual.

  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, and with consistent follow-through.
  • Creative.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects under deadline.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Outstanding website, computer, and general technological skills including expertise in social media.
  • Team player.
  • Represent Tanenbaum in a professional manner at all times.
  • Experience with video editing.
  • Experience with WordPress, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Photoshop a plus.
  • Experience with photography a plus.
  • Sense of humor.

All work produced for Tanenbaum by the Communications Associate is the work product of Tanenbaum and may not be used by the Communications Associate outside of Tanenbaum-authorized activities.

SALARY RANGE

$45,000-$50,000 commensurate with experience
