Hate is Hate, No Matter Who the Target Is.
In an effort to “stop bigotry and promote respect across lines of culture, religion, tradition, class, and gender” the 2011 Hours Against Hate Campaign is “asking young people around the world to pledge their time to stop hate—to do something for someone who doesn’t look like you, pray like you, or live like you.”
The campaign was founded by Hannah Rosenthal, Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism and Farah Pandith, the Obama Administration’s Special Representative to Muslim Communities (with whom Tanenbaum has recently had the pleasure of partnering).
2011 Hours Against Hate is very much aligned with the work of Tanenbaum’s Religion and Diversity Education program, asserting that when given the right tools, young people can make change in their communities, by being curious about and respectfully exploring communities other than their own, and collectively re-shape the world.
