While there is no legal requirement to engage in any of the following practices, these are industry-accepted practices to ensure patients consistently receive ethical, equitable medical care that respects their individual needs and identities:

  • Prioritize the patient’s well-being
  • Provide accurate and unbiased information
  • Provide accurate and prior notice of personal moral or religious convictions that might impact patient care
  • Promptly refer out care when necessary
