How Does This Affect Me as a Provider?

It is up to each health care provider to reflect on their personal beliefs regarding right and wrong as it relates to patient care. Some questions to consider include:
- What do I believe constitutes harmful behavior/”doing harm” in medical care?
- To what extent are my beliefs about right and wrong related to my religious beliefs or affiliation or lack thereof?
- Are there procedures I am uncomfortable with/unwilling to provide? If yes, why?
- Are there patients I am uncomfortable treating/unwilling to treat? If yes, why?
- Have I communicated these things to my employer/supervisor?
- Have I familiarized myself with my institution’s disclosure policy?
- Have I communicated these things to my patients? (this can be done with signage, while scheduling appointments, or during intake)
