LGBTQ+ Youth Health: The Role of Religion

To effectively care for LGBTQ+ youth patients, providers must be able to recognize the unique role religion plays in shaping their patients’ social, emotional, and health experiences. This module will assist providers in discussing topics relating to sexual orientation and gender identity with patients and families from diverse religious backgrounds.

Through knowledge-building exercises and discussion, this module supports providers to:

  • Understand the health inequities and disparities that disproportionately affect LGBTQ+ youth
  • Assess how social identifiers, such as religion, impact LGBTQ+ youth patients
  • Develop skills to respectfully navigate the intersections of belief, religion, and LGBTQ+ health.
