Thank you for celebrating with us!

A few highlights from Tanenbaum’s 2020 Gala!

“We have 43,000 students that have been educated and exposed to this program and over 600 faculty members in public schools. I’d love that to be every faculty member in every school, public or private.”
Philanthropic Bridge Builder Award, Marcy Syms, President and Founding Trustee, Sy Syms Foundation, on her support of Tanenbaum’s curricula, Religions In My Neighborhood.

“The work you are doing…is amazing because I really do feel it reflects America’s true values. America is a secular country that should fight for inclusion, irrespective of race, color, creed, class, or religion.”
Media Bridge Builder Award, Hasan Minhaj, Host of Netflix’s Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj

“Religion is a core identity and over 80% of the world identifies as religious. Tanenbaum is important because we understand this and we address it. My hope is that it will go from strength to strength, that it will further its global impact and more people will be treated equitably, with dignity and with respect.”
Visionary Award, Joyce S. Dubensky, CEO, Tanenbaum

Dear Tanenbaum Community,

Words cannot describe how grateful we are to have shared an amazing night with you all. Our first live Virtual Gala was an exciting, new and fun way to keep our annual tradition, and we could not have done it without all of you! And thank you all for your patience with some of our tech glitches.

Many people tuned into our livestream last night as we honored Marcy Syms, Hasan Minhaj, and our very own Joyce Dubensky. While we are physically distanced, socially we came together, from across the globe, united in our belief that a world that respects religious differences is so very much needed now.

Thank you for your donations last night to the Visionary Fund in honor of Joyce Dubensky! It’s not too late to help fortify Tanenbaum’s innovative programs and projects with a gift. Text to pledge is available at (347) 970-2803.

I hope that you all enjoyed the show and had a good chuckle or two, and we thank you for continuing to stand with us as we forge ahead in our mission and work to promote justice and build respect for religious differences.

Until next time,

Mark Fowler
Deputy CEO, Tanenbaum

Religion In Pop Culture – Honoring Hasan Minhaj

Dear Friends,

Please join us on May 27th as we honor Hasan Minhaj, Tanenbaum’s 2020 Media Bridge Builder Award recipient, at our Virtual Gala, live-streamed from New York! The Media Bridge-Builder Award is presented to journalists and media personalities whose work focuses public attention on issues of human rights and respect for differences.

Comedian, actor and host of Netflix’s Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj, Hasan represents a generation of young performers who are reclaiming their Muslim heritage in a post-9/11 world. As a first-generation immigrant, Minhaj is outspoken about the various intersections of his identity as an American-Muslim of Indian descent who regularly shares how his faith impacts his life and incorporates his experiences into his comedy and work.

Hasan’s willingness to analyze issues concerning Muslims in comedic ways actively combats religious tropes and contributes to positive representations of Islam in the media. His popularity allows people of different backgrounds to see that they too can be successful and embraced for who they are, without having to hide parts of themselves.

Representation is necessary now more than ever, and Hasan’s brand of socially conscious comedy makes him a powerful pop culture icon. And we are privileged to present him with the Media Bridge Builder Award. To purchase tickets, ads or make a donation, click here. We look forward to sharing this exciting evening with you!

Live from New York…Tanenbaum’s Virtual Gala!

Dear Friends,

I hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy.

Challenging circumstances require creative solutions, which is why this year, we have created an exciting alternative to our traditional Gala – introducing Tanenbaum’s first-ever Virtual Gala!

Please plan to join us online via an exclusive broadcast on May 27th at 6:00 PM!

Our virtual gala will gather us all together to celebrate our honorees, enjoy quality entertainment and a few laughs. Most importantly, we’ll come together as a community to celebrate all that we have accomplished, and to prepare for the work that lies ahead.

Our annual gala is a critical piece of our sustainability because it provides the financial support needed to pursue this work. While we may be physically distant from one another, we remain connected by Tanenbaum’s vision of a world where differences are respected.

For more information on our virtual gala, or to purchase tickets, or ad space, click here.

We look forward to sharing community together on May 27th!

Warm regards,

Mark Fowler,
Deputy CEO
