On November 10th, Tanenbaum celebrated their commitment to peace through the gift of music.

Tanenbaum’s concert, A Piece for Peace, was held at the beautiful home of Georgette Bennett and Leonard Polonsky. There, the talented Navah Perlman and Clara Minhye Kim made this intimate event come to life. They performed beautifully together – seamlessly complementing each other in works by Johannes Brahms, Niccolo Paganini and Antonio Vivaldi. Equally riveting though, was how Navah and Clara shared inside information about each piece, and answered questions from our guests, which made the event even more intimate. But perhaps the best part of the evening was when Navah’s daughter Aviva, already an accomplished cellist, joined her mother and teacher (Ms. Kim) to play for us.

Navah, known for her lyrical eloquence on stage, established herself as one of the most poetic and admired pianists of her generation. She has performed to critical acclaim in major concert venues throughout North America, Europe and Asia.

She has appeared with numerous orchestras including the Philadelphia Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony, Nashville Symphony, Montreal Symphony, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and the Prague Symphony.

Ms. Perlman teaches students of all ages in master classes, speaks to school assemblies and has also conducted pedagogy workshops for teachers.

Clara Minhye Kim has performed as a solo cellist, recitalist and chamber musician throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. She has been a guest performer and faculty at the Jerusalem Music Center in Israel and has performed at numerous international festivals including in France, Korea and the U.S. In 2011 she was chosen by the U.S. State Department as one of the Korean-American representatives in Arts for South Korean President Lee Myun Bak and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Dr. Kim currently leads the largest cello studio at the Juilliard School. She teaches at Columbia University and was the youngest fulltime string faculty to be appointed at the Juilliard School Pre-College Division since 2003.

This special evening of A Piece for Peace, would not have happened without the support of the evening special sponsor, Foa & Son! We thank them and also thank those whose vision and leadership established A Piece for Peace: R. Adam Smith, Susan Filan, Esq. and Mary Jane Brock. Together, we honored our Peacemakers.
