One Woman Stands Against Hate

The Jewish Daily Forward posted a piece yesterday about Pamela Gellar,  founder of Stop Islamization of America, which is described as a “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center. The blog post’s author, Nechama Liss-Levinson, is a member of Great Neck Synagogue, where Gellar was scheduled to speak until the synagogue cancelled the engagement due to security concerns.

Liss-Levinson offers a compelling account about how she, as a member of the synagogue, felt when the synagogue officially canceled the event for security reasons rather than taking a stand against hate speech.

Tanenbaum applauds Liss-Levinson for publicly standing against hate and encouraging others to do the same.  Click here to read more about, in part, “the lost capacity for civil discourse.”
