Listserves and blogs are abuzz today with good and bad things to say about a new report from The ChicagoCouncil on Global Affairs: Engaging Religious Communities Abroad: A New Imperative for U.S. Foreign Policy. Yes, we’ve mentioned it too, and I’ve commented elsewhere on the controversy of it.
Before we let it go, for now, at least, I want to point you to my favorite punditry so far- a bit by Martin Marty that gives background as well as praise. Most importantly to me, Mr. Marty himself illustrates the needed religious literacy – and even, gasp, nuance – that is at the heart of the report. (That’s more than I can say about much of what I’ve read on the web today, which, I suppose, further proves the Council’s point.)
